Constant care and reforestation of our own natural water sheds provide water to the lodge, restaurant & grounds. San Lucas is a pioneer in Honduras of sustainable & environmentally friendly practices in the use of energy. 50% of the energy used comes from solar sources.

Faithful to Doctor Cueva’s life-long mission, his children and grandchildren continue honoring his commitment to encourage and be principal stewards in the protection and conservation of our natural and cultural patrimony, as well as contributing to the development of the community.

Community involvement - deeply engrained in our mission is supporting our local communities, our projects support local education & production. This was recognized by the highest tourism award in Honduras - the “Premio Copán” in 2009. As a result of years of conservation, San Lucas has evolved as a prime birding destination that combines culture & birding, as demonstrated by Victor Emmanuel Nature Vent & Audubon Society of Boston.
